THE SILENCERS 'BURNS NIGHT' GIG
ABC, Glasgow Feb.9th 2007

On Friday 9th February 2007, I was honoured to be asked back to perform with the band at a wonderful benefit concert for legendary Silencers guitarist Cha Burns at the ABC venue on Sauchiehall Street. I was fiddler with the band for a couple of fantasic years.
For this special gig, just about all previous members of the band got back together - and the result was awesome! The original members performed together for the first time in almost 20 years which went down a storm with the enthusiastic crowd.
Most previous members of management, promotion, sound, technicians & roadies made the night a real and truly unforgettable celebration.
For those who tried to get tickets, but failed, there will HOPEFULLY be a DVD of the full concert (including interviews, rehearsal footage) released soon to raise more money for the funds....watch this space, or just email if you would like to be kept in touch regarding the release!
COOL T-SHIRTS FROM THE GIG ARE BEING SOLD ON JINKY'S SITE, TO WHICH THERE IS A LINK ON MY LINKS PAGE.

UPDATE : 29th March, 2007
Ever so sadly this week,on 26th March 2007, Cha passed away. All who knew him are left with great memories, and great pride in the fact that we knew him.
He was a unique, true individual who - although generally quiet in character - what he did say mattered, and he had a lasting impact on you. Although a captivating performer, I never knew him to be an attention seeking or egotistical guy, which in a profession such as music is unusual. Thank goodness we all shared the 'Burns Night' gig experience, and have happy memories of our friend to be cherished forever.
He will be greatly missed, and never forgotten.

UPDATE : 5th APRIL, 2007
Cha's service was held in Coatbridge on Tuesday 3d April. Given the circumstance, it was a true celebration of Cha the man, his music and his life. There was plenty of poignancy and lots of humour in the words of friends and & family. We all know that we have lost someone special here, and although united in grief, we kept in the forefront of our minds that the last thing Cha would have wished for was a day of tears & mourning. I am sure he will have enjoyed the day, and felt proud of his close family & friends who organised the difficult day so perfectly.
The common thread of Music made all our lives paths cross with Cha, and music played an important part in his final celebration day with moving performances from Jinky & Jimme, and a rare recent recording of Cha himself singing one of his own compositions.
Truly moving.
